Water and Sand

I must admit that our “48 pizzas” resolution has fallen by the wayside as we’ve embarked on a bit of a healthy lifestyle change but come May 23rd, we would be 24 Pizzas into our 4-year tenure.

Looking back, the decision to join the dark side was a fairly easy one for Nige. After years of dealing with domestic violence and/or alcohol and drug-related events, he was glad and even looking forward to moving on but for me, it wasn’t so easy. As much as I loved the bush, I balked at the length of tenure – a year and a half longer than the other two tenures.

The year that was

With Christmas just under 12 weeks away, it seems that we’ll soon be fare-welling all things 2019.

I remarked to someone the other day that it’s a pity no one travels out west in Summer because if they did, they’d see some fantastic displays in front yards of town houses (BTW quite a few farmers have their farm house as well as a house in town so I’m wondering, is that the origin of ‘town house’?) and outside station gates of Santa – driving a tractor, riding a motorbike, or checking out his ute engine, in preparation for the big day……….. or perhaps he’s just sitting by the side of the road contemplating how last Christmas seems like only a couple of months away.

Merry Christmas 2018!

Driving around town, it seems that the grey nomads have moved on to cooler climates and the caravans have been replaced with Christmas decorations. Cobar is nothing if not welcoming and the number of festivals and events that are celebrated would put some larger towns to shame.

48 Pizzas

One of our first decisions after arriving in Cobar was to celebrate the arrival every month with take-away pizzas. We gave ourselves 3 days’ grace – in case one of us was away or, heaven forbid, it was Monday and the Pizza Chef had the night off – so now the ‘official ruling’ is Pizzas will be eaten on the 23rd (the day we left Paradise) or the 24th (the day we arrived in Cobar) or the 25th (the day we woke up in Cobar) of each month of our 4-year tenure. Last night was Chicken and Bacon (Kaye) and Perri Perri Chicken (Nigel). Thank you to The Great Western Pizza Chef! ……….. and still 46 pizzas to go.

2nd Month in Ivanhoe

Today while I was at the Post Office, I happened to mention that I was looking for some geranium cuttings, which then inspired the Post Office staff to ask people, who came in whether they could “give Kaye some cuttings”. When people asked where they should leave them, it was decided to leave them at the police station.
